My daily driver is an automatic integra, a 98 and I was wondering how do you change the transmisson fluid? Besides that, oil, and coolant is there any other fluids I should change? How hard are they to change and how do you do it exactly? Thanks

 

Change ur tranny while ur at it.

 

Someone wanna explain to me exactly how to do it?

tranny fluid is quite easy. first find the oil pan for the tranny and unscrew the bolt and drain the fluid. next remove the pan and replace that filter that is in the auto tranny pan. install is the opposite.

This would be the method for most cars. But on Honda/Acura trannies, you can't drop the pan nor replace the filter. The only thing you can do is drain the fluid.

Just find the bolt that is on the tranny and drain out the fluid. To refill, pull out the dipstick and get a long funnel and fill with 2.9 qts of Honda ATF. After you've added the fluid, turn on the car and cycle through the gears ending on park. If I were you , I'd replace the ATF at least every 30K miles, and 15K if possible.

 

You pour the ATF fluid in through the where the dipstick goes? I didn't know that! Good thing I didn't try before posting. Besides that fluid is there anything else I should do a quick change of?

That means bleeding your brakes - search if you don't know how...

 

the drain method does not change all the fluid, the way to change most of the fluid it to uplug the feed line to the raiditor and turn the car on and let it flush out but i would recommend that a professonial to do if you have not done it before.

That is just part of how to flush it. THere is more to it than that.

You DON'T want to drain it empty while it's running.

Or you can simply drain & fill, 3 or 4 times, & drive 20 miles in between. Each time you drain, only about 1/3 of the total fluid drains out.

If your old fluid is still nice & pink, doesn't smell burnt at all, I'd just drain & fill once every 30k miles or so.

Actually, Honda/Acura recommends against using flushing machines on their auto trannies. The reason is that the pan can't be dropped and the filter can't be cleaned. The preferred method for changing out all the ATF is to do a "triple flush" as Jim Blake recommends.

We use a tranny flush machine at work.

I know that some dealerships use flushing machines, but I wouldn't feel safe using it. Doing a "triple flush" is a lot safer method.

 

I'm not sure on your trans but on mine the drain plug is kind of weird. It's round with a square hole and it points toward the passenger side front wheel. You stick your ratchet in directly with no socket. First time I saw it I was puzzled for about 2 minutes.

 

I'll have to check that out and see, I don't wanna do anything too complicated just because I don't trust myself
