change it at least once a year at the max, but id change it at least every 6 months. its the only thing that will really prolong the life of that trans.

My EK service manual says to change the auto tranny fluid every 80,000km
it's a 2k EK 1.4 auto grocery getter

is there drain plug on the auto tranny like the manuals, to drain it, then just refilling it with mtx fluid and all is well?

There is a drain plug on the passenger side through the wheel well. I can get to it with the wheel on my 2000 LX. The fill port is where the tranny dip stick goes. I would recommend Honda automatic transmission fluid, as the manufacturer does, not manual transmission fluid.
Also, I don't see any problem with changing every other oil change if you want, but the recommended period is every 30k miles. Every other oil change may be excessive. I do mine every six months.
IMHO

an older honda auto tranny wont last 30k without changing out the atf.
honda can build the best parts, and the worst parts at times

Unless you drive your car outrageously hard, changing your mtf every oil change is an extreme over kill!!!

True, but your wasting money. Me changing mine every 10-15k is just as good as you doing it every 3k. I guess if you got money to throw away, knock yourself out but that money could be used other places.
