Default Change oil at 6 months, or wait till 5K miles?

I barely drive the Teg anymore. It's got 360,000+ miles original engine, but since I cycle a ton these days I barely do 5K miles in a year.

So the question is, change it at 6 months which might be 2,500 miles, or wait a whole year and change it with 5K miles on the oil? I know I should probably get a UOA performed, but damn man I ain't got time for all that.

since it's cheap maintenance, I don't see why it would hurt to do so.

I've always changed mine at 3750 for conventional and 5000 for synthetic. I tried doing 7500 for synthetic at first with this last build but found that the oil was nasty at that mileage and that the valvetrain started getting noisy at ~6000 (B20z build), so I settled in at 5000. Now that I travel for work and I'm not really putting many miles on the car I'm doing 5k or 1 year and I don't really feel bad about it. I'd be interested to see what the experts say, but I really solidly believe that as long as you're driving the thing once in a while you'll be just fine at that interval.

All of that is absolute opinion though, so take it with a grain of salt.

Yeah I guess I really just need to get the UOA performed, with the lab's suggestions. And I do drive it regularly, 2-3 times a week or so for a regular work commute.

Low mileage driving is hell on oil. Arguably more so than hard driving. The oil normally accumulates moisture, fuel, and other blowby, much of it burned away during normal extended engine operation. But low mileage driving rarely presents the oppurtunity to burn off the excess waste.

6 months or 5k-7k,which ever occurs first is your safest bet.
