CEL question
When your engine throws a CEL, does the ecu ever compensate for anything and make your engine run differently? I have a 98 Type R and the check engine light is 45, having to do with the fuel mixture. Thanks...

Just had to make me stop and think JSecwest..
Thats a good damn question.. I would have to say "yes"
but I don't think that was mandated by the EPA when OBDII came to be, and it may be different with other car manufacturers.. I guess it would depend upon the car.. Maybe when OBDIII comes around the ecu will have more "functionality" to correct whatever problem it may be seeing.. OBDII is is more of a monitor and record type function..
lets do a little test..
I do believe the ecu can compensate.. I can only think of one component that can "physically" control the motor and make adjustments to compensate.. anybody know what component has that capability?
And whats its function with a normal running motor?
I'm gonna make you people think for a change!..
