post pics of the crank, don't bother with plastigauge and those bearings, you'll need to determine the bearing color code from the block and order a stock set of bearings and then plastigauge those to see if the tolerances are still within spec

if it were me though I would pull the motor and do all of that on an engine stand or drop the block off at a machine shop and have them assemble the bottom end and then just install the head and put it back in the car

I cant hardly get pictures of the crank in my poorly lit garage, under the car.

I will try though.

I appreciate your help.

What do you think about this??

http://www.autozone.com/R,APP4...l.htm

I bought this car for $1000, im trying to sell it. Just keep that in mind.

If this were my DD I wouldnt be going through this, I would just completly rebuild it.

Thanks

Keith

are you hearing a lite ping or a dull knock.the lite ping will sound like valves.the dull knock will sound like a diesel.also if you have a cracked sleeve it could be letting water in and making it self dedinate.if that is the case...look at those ring lands those will for sure tell the story.

but if you have spun a bearing....please don't be cheap and just replace the bearings thinking you will get by with it BECAUSE YOU WON'T.you can take a penny and scrape it across the journals and if it leaves a trace of that penny on the journal .then that journal will need to be checked and from there either polished or turned.but i would say turned if you have spun a bearing.because you only have .0010 to play with.

the bearings are wiped....but do not show signs of a spun bearing.check the rest of the rods if you havn't already and let me know what they look like.if everything looks good...i will bet your problem lays in either a cracked sleeve which is doubtful if this car has never seen boost...or the head.you can have a cracked head and still not mix oil and the water.then there is a cracked head that will mix oil and water.

i think what your hearing like i said before is dedination "gurgling noise" almost like a diesel.which is water coming into the combustion chamber and it is raising the comp. and the comp. is what is setting the mixture off instead of the spark.

i just had this problem on a gsr that a guy brought to me and couldn't figure it out.

sorry for the long *** explanation

gonna need a little more than no/no to help you with this.if the rods look good
i bet your ring lands are cracked from the water being pushed in thru a crack in the head very seriously doubt the block if it hasn't been boosted.

look for a fine crack and then take a screw driver and pull the piece out.it will be aroung the 2nd ring land.

you can take the head off and the motor can stay in.but hell you already have taken the rods loose and what knock....your not to far from being completely tore down.

but yes you can take the head off and push the piston and rod out the top and look for what i told you.as long as everything looks good like you say, then you can just reuse everything you have except the pistons.be sure to label what come from what tho."this is the cheap way out" which sounds like the way you want to go.but just make sure the motor mic's out on the clearances.
