Quick question. I have a cat laying around , looks pretty good inside still. Was wondering if I can weld it to my exhaust thats bolted to my EJ even though it isn't a universal cat because Its about that time in CA (SMOG). Cat's are all the same am I correct? Basically a filter for the exhaust.

 

nope not all the same. you will fail visual if its not the cat made for the vehicle.

 

But will it fail the emissions part of the test? Last time I was at the referee he didn't visually inspect the cat.

 

I would guess that most cats would be made out of the same stuff. Honestly, think about the differences in the engines. If you put a cat off of a 2.6 engine, onto a 1.8, I would say it would work great. But then again I don't know that much about emissions, and that is just me thinking logically.
