what does it usually mean if when you try and start it and you only get 1 click and wont try to crank...very rarely, sometimes if you leave it for a day or so it will crank and start...but very roughly. is this the starter, or could it be anything else, just wanna see before we get it towed...the only thing we've actually tried is replacing the spark plugs...still no dice

 

means you you have a dead battery, or bad starter solenoid which means replacing the start.

make sure the battery is charged fully, and if that still doesn't work. take off the starter and take it to a local hardware shop and have it tested out.

i know its not the battery because headlights and everything works, like i said it will work very rarely, you can hear stuff going inside the engine, just wont turn over :/

 

Could be a loose ground. I would still get the battery load tested because sometimes they have a surface charge enought to light headlights, sterio, ect but not enough to start the car.

 

This might sound bad *BUT* if you have a bad starter then
hit the solenoid with a rubber hammer once or twice and if that dont work then i dont know what to tell you let me know if that worked

even if that works how long will it work for?

Untill you get a new or rebuilt starter

 

Check the battery first. If you get a single click when you turn the key over, it is the solenoid contacts inside the starter. They can be replaced by themselves if you want to save some money; we do this all the time at work, and I figure toyota and honda both use denso starters, you shouldn't have trouble finding the contacts. If you must get it started, either click it like 10 times and the plunger will usually rotate just enough to get a good contact and start, or like someone above said, you can tap on the solenoid.

Well I cleaned off the contacts on the battery itself and now after 3 or 4 clicks it does start anyway so its the solenoid contacts? how much will that usually run, i dont tihnk i mentioned but this is for my dads isuzu rodeo dont think it should make a difference but thx for the replys guys
