car storage question PLEASE HELP
im leaving on friday to california.. im going to tech school out there for a year.. now i dont know what i should do to my gisser!! i have a garage.. i was planning on just throwing it in there for a year.. what would you ppl reccomend i do?
I'll be glad to keep it for you until you get back. I'll change the oil, don't worry.
I would think that the best thing to do, if you can, is to put it in your garage and have someone start it up every 2 weeks or so.

Beerman is right, have someone start it and drive it every once in a while. Also if you have nice tires on it, you may want to consider taking those off and throwing a set of crappers on it while it sits.
yeah, Take off tires... fuel tank to less than 1/4 remove battery cables and battery completely and flush and fill oil and coolant. A year is a long time to leave dirty **** to settle. All this ofcourse if no one can fire it up every so often. When you get back, drain the fuel out of the tank and purge the lines with new fuel.

thanx for the info.. i guess im just gonna do a nice oil change and have my mom fire it up every so often.. she wont be able to drive it.. ( cant drive stick ) and i got the crappy stock michees on so i dont really care
Put it up on jackstands. That way there is no way to flat spot any of the tires. If you have ever driven a car with spotted tires you will understand. Also if it is up on stands your mom can start it and run it through a couple of gears, b/c it is easy to do up in the air. just my $.02

no jackstands! that's just asking for trouble to leave it up there for a year. what if the ****** house goes up in flames? what if the jackstands give? bad idea all around... so is "running it through a couple of gears" up on the jackstands. Where did you come up with this? Anyway, i agree with taking it on a roadtrip to cali. If you don't, i put money on you wishing you had!

Got a friend you trust with it? Just starting it up for a few seconds might be worse than not at all. I think that driving it once every month or 2, long enough to actually warm up properly, is better than simply starting it once a week.
Don't set the handbrake, it'll rust your rear rotors unevenly. Actually driving it will be better for your brakes, shocks, stuff like that.

If you end up storing it and no one can run it every so often, get some fuel stabilizer. You dont want the gas to gel up in the tank and do nasty stuff.
I don't think gas will gel up fully in 1 yr. But the fuel stabilizer is a great idea. It really works. You can get it from the auto parts store. Good idea to change the oil. Used motor oil is slightly acidic. Wax the paint and maybe use a car cover. Disconnect the battery.
there was a post inthe ef forms like about 6months ago about this with really good tips on storage. I can't find in it search but i can try to give you the list from what i can remember
-*ill up tank with added fuel detergent (helps keep gas clean)
*drop 1table spoon of tranny fluid in each cylinder and hand crank it to prevent the rings from sticking over a long period of time.
*clog up intake manifold and exhust manifold with large towel to keep moistre out(trap moister will promote rusting)
*clean entire car as well as possible
*for the interior set a few moth ***** or (other *****) to keep out rodents and other unwanted guest
*jack up car on all four stands with addtional support just incase
if i remember anymore i will edit my post. This was taken from Motor Trend.
