Hey so I have a 1993 civic si with a d16z the engine is is good condition was rebuilt and has been running excellent until last night. I first noticed it when i was driving in third gear was slowly picking up to about 3 rpms when the rpms just bounched up and down and my car so pulled back. The feeling was as if you popped the clutch at high rpms. Then came the bad part my car does not have a gas light not sure if the car did not have one built in. Therefore, today was when the really bad part happened I was driving back to school when the rpms when wacko on me in the parking lot in second the feeling was if the car was in like 4th gear and i was going the speed on 1st. The rpms just started bouncing around and the car was shaking as if i was going to slow and in a high gear. So i turned it off, turned it back on and it kept doing the same thing. S i figured it was the gas becasue i was almost on empty so got a ride with a jerry can came back filled up and then turned it on and it was fine it drove fine for me to get to work then on my break it happened again, but i manage to get the car home i had to turn it off and back on 3 times because it did the same thing again in a 3km drive. So the cars parked and im wondering where to start


I was thinking that it could be some type of sensor or something. I don't believe its my engine block or anything because my engine has seem pretty fresh to me since i have had it.

Sounds like possibly one or some of the cylinders arent firing.. did you check the spark plugs? Same thing happened to me in my old civic and it turned out my 4th cylinder was not firing

 

I don't believe thats the problem because i took the car out for a 20 minute spin today it started on the first crank and drove around great i got a couple of little rpm jumps when driving.

I did some reading and it looks like it may be the throttle body the spark plugs all looked to be fine. So im going to give the throttle body a good cleaning and see how it runs after that. I noticed to a little delay when putting the gas down as well and that was is a problem with dirt throttle bodies so I am going to clean it out and hope that fixes my problem.
