Default Car died: help

I was driving my 1997 Civic DX on the freeway, all of a sudden my rpm drops to 0 and the engine started cutting out, i gave it gas and i can hear the engine but my car wasn't going any faster, finally it died and i had to get it towed coz i coundn't get it started. Any help appreciated

Mods:

the car didn't do anything, I did not hear it cranking. But when the tow trunk driver gave me a boost, my car started and idled for 20 secs... but then it died again with no rpm reading even when i was revving it trying to keep the idle alive.
