Can you convert an obd1 engine to obd2???
Hello. Can anyone tell me if you can convert and obd1 engine to obd2? What all is needed to make an obd1 engine work and function in an obd2 car, so it can pass emissions testing?
Has anyone actually tried this?
I know there is a crank angle sensor in the obd2 (none in obd1). I have swapped an obd1 block into an obd2 eclipse. You can modify the crank sensor to read the cam angle sensor.

thats illegal
you are not allowed to put an older engine in a newer car.....but who's gunna check?...unless your in california...i feel sorry for people in cali.
I am not sure if it would pass emissions...i doubt it.

Maybe I worded my question wrong. Let me re-phrase my question.
Is it illegal to convert an obd1 engine to obd2?
STFU! If you can't answer my ******* question than why do post this ****. Mother ******* like you **** the **** out of me. Nothing worse than a POS that answers posts either not knowing what the **** they are talking about, or don't bother to read the post. People that spell like a retarded third grader also annoy the ******* hell out of me. This is not the first ******* post about converting obd1 to obd2, but I can't really find a trust worthy post because of all these dumb *****. If you were worried so much about illegal mods, you would be posting in every other thread. So **** yourselves you stupid annoying bitch mother *******. You guys do **** to help anyone.
"Dude, h22 is too heavy, it will cause mad understeer in a civic."
"Dude, just get some high compression cams, some type r pistons, and a crv block and your gonna be fast"
Sorry to anyone that I might of offended, unless this **** applies to you. There should be forum made only for **** heads. I'm sofa king we tah did! ,,i,,

wow. Calm the **** down....fucktard.
I did answer your question did i not?
You asked:
so it can pass emissions testing?
and answered:
i doubt it.
and then you freak out.
If you searched before asking this quite obviously stupid question, then you would have found your answer covered plenty of times.
You need an obd2 dizzy, and obd2 injectors and an obd2 ecu....as for the CFK sensor in the oil pump, i'm not sure what you would have to do about that because the obd2 ecu would look for that. Unless that is if you want to convert your car to obd1, in which case i am pretty sure it would not pass emissions.

yea you can do it, pain in the *** though, I would just get a ob1-obd2 conversion harness if you want to run a obd2 ecu. But it can be done, on my first b16 swap I rewired obd0-obd2b....Dont ask me why.
Actually, you did not answer my question. First, "so it can pass emissions testing?" That is not a question. Read my full sentence. I know I'm a retard when it comes to run on sentences and proper wording, but you read like you write. One of your questions "I did answer your question did i not?" I guess that is just as good of a question as mine?? Also, I did say I did a search but found some bone headed threads with no thread being similar.
I was about to thank you for your second response, but I then realized you just did a search and came up with that answer in hopes to sound smarter.
When you called me a "fucktard" I actually found some humor. I usually call people a "**** face" or "mother ******" or "******* bitch" or even just "******" However, after reading your last sentence, I realized I'm dyslexic and I'll just call you a "tardfuck".
It then dawned upon me that If I need an obd2 alternator, crank sensor, fuel injectors, I will indeed need an obd2 wiring harness (which nowhere in the prior threads states). So thank you that I realized this ****.
Man, your last sentence really makes all this **** make sense. You should have just replied with that last sentence to begin with. Then, I would have not even have had to post anything. I really feel like a "tardfuck" myself. I should have just asked the question "I want to convert my obd2 car to obd1, can I do that legally?"
People, there is no other car company I love more than Honda. However, there is a reason Honda gets the brand "rice rocket" There is nothing worse than an ignorant "tardfuck" domestic racer that flames on Hondas. I now know the type of person that drives type r stickered del-sols with chrome 17's and a dropped suspension with stock struts. Then they say "my r type is fast as ****, but don't buy eibachs because they are way too bouncy".

wow someone desperately needs a valium or xanax.
yup your right. I don't know **** about honda's. I didn't build a naturally aspirated 1.6L that makes more than 100whp per litre. I just dreamed it up.
Now, you say "It then dawned upon me that If I need an obd2 alternator, crank sensor, fuel injectors, I will indeed need an obd2 wiring harness (which nowhere in the prior threads states). So thank you that I realized this ****."
But your question is "What all is needed to make an obd1 engine work and function in an obd2 car"
So, wouldn't you already have an obd2 harness?
Now, if you are using an obd1 engine with an obd2 ecu and harness there would be a plug for the CFK sensor and the ecu would look for the signal from the CFK sensor (located in the oil pump in obd2 engines) but there is no CFK sensor in the obd1's oil pump....sure you could swap the oil pump for an obd2 one, but thats too much work in my opinion.
Moral of the story, its much easier to convert the car to obd1....or just get an obd2 engine and save your self the headache. What it would cost you to get the obd1 engine running and passing emissions in an obd2 car would (if you sold the obd1 engine) buy you an obd2 engine and none of this would be an issue.
Now, i am not really sure why i took the time to explain this to you. You seem like a decently smart fellow, thats why i was curious as to why you are suck a dick to people trying to help you?
Sorry if i came out sounding like some domestic ricer **** face, but i share the same passion for honda's that you do, and was simply trying to shine a little light on you, but you freaked out....so i responded accordingly.

the obd2 ecu would also be looking for a knock sensor located on the back of the block up top above the oil filter. but ive read of a threaded bung on obd1 blocks that can be used to "fool" the ecu and it will work without throwing the CEL
LOL you guys are funny..
Smog issues & legalities aside, yes you can convert an OBD1 engine to OBD2 spec. It really depends on which OBD2 type you plan to convert to tho -- JDM or US OBD2?
JDM OBD2 ecu's have OBD1-like programming, ie. doesn't look for a 2nd 02 or CKF sensor, whereas US OBD2 ecu's do look for those 2 sensors.
before I continue & possibly waste my time giving too much information, let me know if you're wanting to convert to JDM or US OBD2....

Wow! That is a really helpful response. Plus, it only took you three sentences or less. That is the kind of straight foward info I need. AccordSir-T gave some really helpful info as well. I guess I should be more informative. This is what I am looking to achieve.
I want to put a JDM obd1 h22 into a obd2a civic hatch. It is hard to find an obd2 h22. Also, it is not as affordable as obd1.
I plan to get the soon to buy hatch emission tested with the stocker prior to swapping. This will buy me two years. However, if there is not much to convert, I plan to convert obd1 to obd2 sooner. If there is too much to convert, then I am considering the obd2 h22 type s. I heard Hmotorsonline is respectable. od1 is roughly $2,000. obd2 type s is $3,600 + ecu not equiped with immobilizer.
I did hear that jdm od2 is a little different. AccordSir-T helped clarify as well as your response. So, I guess regardless of jdm obd1 or obd2, if I were to convert any jdm, I will need a usdm h22 harness, alternator, oil pump with crank sensor, fuel injectors, distributor, and 96 usdm ecu (no immobolizer). I don't know for sure, but I doubt the stock civic harness will have all the same plugs that fit on a h22. However, I heard it is easiest to use the stock civic harness and modify it with the proper h22 plugs.
So, I guess It might be easier to swap in a usdm obd2 h22 from the get go. I don't want to really go this route beacause they cost a brick and are just as reliable as the last guy that probably abused it. So, please help me further. If you can confirm what I need. What would be easiest? What is most cost effective?
I am not a genius (hence this thread) and because I am not, I guess I would never be able to extract 100 whp/liter out of an 2.2 let alone a 1.6 liter (but I know ten thousand other people who have). But, I am proud to say, I wrote this whole reply without a single bad word. I wonder why?

thanks dude im just tryin to throw in wat ive learned through my research.
h-motors is a great place i plan on going through them if i ever buy a complete swap and i kno people who have purchased from there. ur not too far off from knowing wat ur needing to do im not sure about wat im about to say for sure but last time i was at h-motors they had a accord sir-t motor which is a F20b... mabey not the same as the s2000 motor and its obd2 and ive heard hasport has mounts to put F-S into civics. which i kno my F22 is a toquey motor and i think that u might be able to pull that swap off unless it would cost too much. BUT IM JUST PUTTING THIS OUT THERE! LOL ill go check into that real quick but that would be pretty crazy

oh...your going H22 ok..that kinda complicates things cuz I'm not quite an H22 swap guru, but I believe the electronic portion of the swap mimick's B-series swaps which I'm more familiar with.
Whats the smog laws like in OR? do they care if your motor is JDM or US?
honestly for this swap, its easiest if you purchase an OBD2 H22 from the get-go just to save yourself from the hassle of converting an OBD1 H22 to OBD2 spec (ie. search for OBD2 distributor, injectors, alternator, and oil pump w/integrated CKF sensor); and use your existing civic engine harness and make the H22 mods to it. I guess you'll have to search around and see how much you can find OBD2 H22 distributor, alternator, injectors & oilpump w/integrated CKF sensor and cross compare the costs of converting an OBD1 H22 engine to buying an actual OBD2 H22 engine.
The JDM Accord SiR-T engine is from the Accord Wagon is actually an H23 VTEC engine. It's kinda rare, but its basically an H23 block with H22 head.
The Accord SiR engine is a destroked H22 engine, stcoked down to 2.0L.
