can u change a sohc to a dohc without changing the bloc?
i was debating this with my friend, can u change a sohc to a dohc without changing the block? in otherwords take the cams from a dohc engine and replace those from a sohc car while keeping the sohc bloc. it just didn't seem right to me, but he thinks it could be done. well?

sorry never done this
not real for sure that it can be
slomofo, are you sure it would only work on ZC?
i always thought the ZC block was the same as all other d series

YES.
Some one has been saying ZC the whole time but know one believes. The answer is yes, no they're not rare. ZC's are the same engine is !st gen integs. They go by d16a1 in us. There is no point in doing so. If you want a good d series you need pistons from a crx or 1st gen integ and a head from a 92-up civic. When combined the piston dome on the older pistons with the smaller combustion chambers of the newer heads can get you up to 12.7:1 with stock Honda parts on any civic block from 88-01 from 1.5 to 1.7.

crx never had the d16a1 (zc motor) in the states not sure about japan. u would have to use the the 1st gen teg pistons the d16a1's with the d16z6 head. i think that yields 12.5:1 compression and i think with the y8 head it yields 13:1 compression, if u want more info on this setup there is a guy on the board "builthatch" thats running this setup in a ek ask him.
12:7:1? is it possible without replacing the cylinder sleeve or increasing size of the head gasket. You need some high octane fuel for that ****.
I was trying to say that the ZC Single overhead cam motor is very rare. You can find ZC DOHC motors everywhere, I know of two in junkyards right now. The ZC DOHC/SOHC have different heads, one dual and one single cam, but they both share the same block and internals. Sorry for not being so clear.
I know what the ZC engines look like, I have swapped quite a few. I do have a question... I have seen a single cam vtec engine that had ZC stamped on the block just like the dohc ZC's. What is that motor out of?
would the d16y8 fall under the combatiblity list with the zc head. some people have told me that the zc head will fit any d16 block. compression does not matter new pistons on the way.
