Default Can an ECU be repaired?

I did a search and found that ECU's can possibly be repaired but Im not sure if this can be repaired anyways here is the situation. I had a OBD1 P72 in my car when I bought it Im not sure if this ECU had these problems before or after this happened. I was trying to get this car that I had just bought out of this guys garage and the battery was dead. Well it was dark in there and I didnt have a good flashlight well needless to say the battery wires got crossed while installing a battery and it fried a couple fuses and what not but other than that I didnt find any problems. Well the ECU that I used to get the car home with constantly threw a code for the VTEC solenoid, the O2 sensor, and one other thing cant remember. The car ran like complete crap until I got another ecu which was a chipped P28. It was crazy the ecu would actually try to engage the vtec while the car was idling and it sounded crazy I thought that I had a problem in the valvetrain and the car wouldnt idle right at all and I spent money on parts that I didnt need when all along it was that bad ECU. So my question is can this ecu be repaired by anyone? I would like to give the P72 another try since Im still running the stock GSR intake mani and its basically a stock engine. Also this P72 was for an automatic and I would like for that portion of the ECU to eliminated so I dont get a check engine light. Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.
