Can anyone help me with a surging b16a2?
I did a swap for a friend. The donor car was a wrecked 2000 civic SI.
The car that it went into was a 2000 civic EX coupe.
Of corse on obd2 cars/engines, the harness is attached to the car, goes through the firewall, then plugs into the ecu. This makes it easy for a swap, you can just take the SI harness, run it through the fire wall, then plug it into the ECU.
Now this car does not have any check engine lights, but it surges irratically, and it is very un predictable.
The only thing that we changed was the TPS because we broke it during the uninstallation process. We used the EX throttle position sensor off of the d16y8.
NO check engine light, and when we unplug the IACV, the surging does not change.
-THe car runs rich at idle, and only surges mainly at part throttle.
Any help will be greatly appreciated

you may want to check the fast idle air valve under the throttle body. its a special goofy wax/plastic plug that goes bad which will make both the car idle eratic and run rich cause its heat sensitive so it thinks it needs more fuel (closed loop) thus your rich concern just for good measure as well check your coolant level by bleeding the coolant lines and topping it off, this is also a well known eratic idle contributor cause the motor gets an air pocket in the coolant passage automotive hiccup i guess you could say....

Yes, I too had a erractic idle once the car warmed up. I checked the IAC (idle air control valve) under the intake, in the back of the motor and the fast throttle control valve under the throttle body. The fixed turned out to be bleeding the coolant system....runs smooth cold and warm now !!!
Also on the fast idle valve, the cap that holds the plug in place can sometimes unscrew itself and cause the surge. I see that alot on the b series motors at the dealership I work at.
Thanks for that bit of info 1bad-eg.....
Also, is there suppose to be constant suction from the hole in the bottom of the throttle body to the fast control valve?
thanks.................
