Camshaft problem, please help
Hey guys I'm running into some issues with my webcams and was wondering if anyone could me out?
I have a new rebuilt H22a, with a 97 type SH ported head, type R lma, web cam custom regrind camshafts, webcam retainer, valve springs; on a 93 H22 block with type S pistons. This is the second time I found scratches and dents on the camshaft vtec lobe and the rockers, but the intake cam is fine. It happened when I barely had 2000 miles on the motor. My motor was then rebuilt, rockers and cams were replaced ( stock rockers and another new pair of custom regrind webcam cams). And same thing happened again after 2000 miles. This is driving me crazy.
Any idea what could be the cause of this? The person who built the motor told me it seems to be a tuning issue, that my motor was running rich, but the injectors I have on are all stocks, and I'm running 25 miles/ gallon so I think it is pretty good gas milege as for a motor with mods ( unless a built motor should be running 40 miles/gallon ---> heard from someone).
Besides, my motor is rather loud, espeically when compare to my brother's stock H22 which is very quite.
Please help if anyone had seen this happened before. I'm about to throw a dynamite at my car, j/k

I am no expert but did you break the cams in properly? I believe that you are supposed to take the engine up to 2000+ rpm immediately after start up and keep it there for about 30 minutes. If it doesn't start right away, you need to reapply assembly lube and try again. Running the engine at lower rpms can pit or gouge the lobes.
yes, everyday, when the car is started, I would step on the gas pedal lightly so the rpm would not stay and will be around 1500-2000 rpm. I've done that for at least the first 500 miles
