Cam gears not lining up HELP!?!
Take a look at this b18c that i bought locally. I pull of the timing cover and valve cover to get ready to change the timing belt and water pump, then i see the cam markers weren't lining up. What do you guys think happened?

Ya the only way to figure out what is wrong is by taking the head off. Oh well i don't have many tools at home so i'm gonna bring it to my friends house. Hopefully if something is wrong, the results aren't too bad. I mean what could of been damaged? Bent valves?? Hopefully it won't be too costly. THanks for the help guys.

all right i forgot we todd was down, did you check the shaft on the dizzy? sometimes the bearings go bad a siez then it jumps time on that cam. just a thought.
From the picture...it looked like someone got the cam gears reverse...the intake cam gear is on the exhaust side..and exhaust cam gear is on the intake side.
the timing still might be correct...except the white marks are on the outside instead of the inside.

Yikes! sounds like the intake cam jupmed a few teeth. I'd say reset the belt/cams and spin the eninge over by hand and watch the valves for proper movement. IMHO

Ya when the crank is at tdc, the exhaust cam is in the middle where it is supposed to be. But the intake cam is around 45 degrees off. Or is it possible to jump a couple teeth by spinning the crank clockwise loosening the tensioner??? i dont' know, I'll definately find out this weekend when i take the head off. Thanks guys.
If you were to look at the picture upside down...it will look right when you line up the white marks.
I think your timing is correct...except like i said...they got the cam gears mixed up.

what? no it doesnt. they are 90 deg off from eachother, and cam gears cannot be mixed up because they are the exact same
