Default CAM GEAR QUESTION

I've got a 1990 civic hatch with a D16Z6. I've got intake, header, exhaust. I'm getting a cam gear soon(ordered from nopi) when i install it how will i know what advancement will give me the most power. i was thinking on taking it to a shop but if i can do it myself that's one more thing i can learn.

The butt dyno is notoriously inacurate for what you're talking about. Take it to a shop, you'll see so much more information.

It isn't so much a matter of learning, as it is a matter of having the necessary equipment. The reason you would need a shop is because a dyno is really the only way of determining what setting makes the most power. You could properly perform the adjustments yourself, assuming you had access to a dyno.
