Default cam gear install gone bad?

I was helping my friend install his cam gear on a 1.6l sohc civic and we ran into something funny. We had to adveance the hell out of the cam to get it to not hesitate or stumble when you hit the accelerator. His mods are as follows, aem CAI,aemfuel rail, aem fuel press regulator, greedy catback, and aem cam gear. It seems to have lost some hp through out the rpm band. We measured tdc before installing the cam gear. My theory is that the fuel pressure is too low in comparrioson to his mods. He doesnt have a fuel press gauge yet so I can t adjust it. I know that on FOCI the the aem CAI make s you loose a little bit of low end tq but I dont know about hondas. Could the tdc be off causing the loss in hp? thanks for any help

You might have the wrong gear for your year engine. The 96-2000 gear uses a different keyway position as compared to the 88-95 gear. I remember it being around 10-15 degrees different.

your timing belt is 1 tooth off.

YES IT IS!

TDC is off because cam timing is wacked from bad install.
