Default cam to crank syncronization

i put a cam gear on yesterday and got the cam and crank out of sync. is TDC just as the pistion reaches the top of it's rotation or just before it starts it's decent into the block? it seems lik it hangs out at the top of it's stroke for about 10 to 15 degrees of crank rotation.

thanks for any help

TDC is when it's at the top. It's impossible to measure accurately unless you rotate and measure the crank position a fixed distance from TDC (coming at it from either direction). TDC is half way between those two angles previously measured.

Hope I explained that properly, or does it only make sense to me because I wrote it?

i tried setting it in the middle of the two points that i mentioned and it still seems to idle like a old bigblock chevy. could it just be getting to much fuel at idle? should i adjust the ignition timeing?

thank you for your reply

What does it mean when you say got out of sync. If it means the belt is a tooth off fix it. Always adjust you ignition timing after adjusting the cam. That could be your problem.
