A/C Help
I cant figure out what is wrong with my ac system....90 civic
The belt and tension are good..
But when the ac button is pushed, nothing enguages....the compressor or the fan
It doesnt look like any loose connections......so my guess was the 2 relays right next to the battery for the ac?
How would i be able to tell which one is bad? Im sure they are pretty pricey, so i didnt want to replace both if only one or IF even one is bad
Any other ideas?

The light on the button does come on though.....so i figure it is a relay in between the button and the fan and compressor
So would that be one of the two relay?

things to check....
-u have a 15 or 20amp fuse for the compressor/fan under hood fuse box, relays are pretty cheap, so noting to worry about
-u have pressure switch that links the system to power make sure all ur connections are good and have no open wires...
-if ur system has a leak and is low(empty) will not engage the compressor clutch
test the system witha set of guages to see how much freon is the system... the thing is if its an older system (r12) u will need a license to to buy r12, so its cheaper to convert ur system over to r-134a, with a retrofit kit which can be bought anywhere.....
hope that helps u a lil, let me know how things go....

It is very true that an A/C system with out enough refrigerant in it will not run. This is caused by a leak somewhere. The laws differe from state to state, but here in WI you must be state licensed to work on ANY a/c system. You could try charging it, and it may work for a while, but there is a leak somewhere, and until you fix it, it will continue to leak out and eventually fail again.
I think we are gonna try to refill it first....i work at a dealership, so R12 and 134a are free..
Then if it still does not enguage or doesnt hold a charge, i guess we work from there
Ill check that relay...whats the diff between the two? is one for the compressor, and one for the fan?

Yeah, you are right.......i remember replacing one like 2 years ago now..
Maybe ill try that then, after i try to charge the system
But that one relay powers both the fan and compressor?
