a/c compressor turns on and off constantly
It has the correct amount of 134a, so i'm not sure what is the problem. does anyone have any ideas of what could be wrong?

Define "constantly". The compressor is supposed to cycle on and off. As long as it's not kicking on and off every 5 seconds, you're OK.

have you checked your pressure in the lines when my system was overcharged it would cycle on and off constantly till I had it redone and no problems since

Generally, when your compressor is turning on and off within a few seconds of each other, it's due to lack of pressure due to lack of freon..
2 things to do (both involved a certified A/C tech)
1.) Have your system tested for leaks
2.) have your system recharged if no leaks are found.

Re: (Crazydave)
Mine did that from too much pressure. A line between the high and low pressure sides got clogged, so I had too much pressure on one side and not enough on the other. I had it cleaned out and the refrigerant replaced and it fixed it right up.

first off the clutch is bad on the compressor so that was one problem, but i dont know if it effected this problem so i ordered a used compressor and I will post the results.
I've very sure its not low on freon, but it might have to much. It could be because of a clogged line.

It sounds like you will be replacing the compressor:
you might as well clean out the lines and the condessor as well as a preventative maintence ....
BEFORE your take off your compressor....
check your lines for leaks, if they are leaking there will probably be some gunk around where the leak is. this would be the time to replace those lines, while you have the system discharged.
there is no point in re-charging a system and instlaling a new compressor in a systems that is going to leak.

It's supposed to, the a/c t-stat kicks it off so that the evaporator doesn't freeze up.

Ok the compressor isnt the problem now.
I replaced it and the new one seems to be working like it should.
The new problem is the compressor gets turned off at the plug. I'm trying to find out why it is getting turned off. I checked the high pressure switch and test for continuity, and it is not shutting off the compressor. I checked the thermostat switch and it also isnt turning off the compressor. What else could turn off the compressor?

If the thermal protector is on the compressor then I dont think that is the problem. The compressor is turned off at the plug. If it was the t.p. that is inside the compressors wouldnt the plug still be turned on?
Maybe I need to check the line comming off the ECU that goes to the relay. What do you think?

it might be the thermal protector, I hooked up two multimeters to watch what the ecu said to do vs what the plug at the compressor. It seems that the compressor will turn off when the ecu says to turn off, but the problem lays when the ECU says turn on and the plug has 12v, but the compressor is not kicking on.
I might need to look at that thermal protector

It acts like a switch, i've seen a few bad ones over the years.

wow that was some bad grammer above. I think the TP is killing the 12v because my condensor needs another fan. My intercooler is blocking the air flow to the condensor. teg's condensor fan sits on the radiator which isnt that good of a design in my opinion.

Re: a/c compressor turns on and off constantly
I had the problem of the AC going on and off in seconds. It seemed to mostly happen while idling. I concluded the problem was that it was not getting enough power from my old battery. I replaced the battery and the problem went away. I concluded that when idling the compressorwas not getting enough power from the battery to handle the load and wasshutting off as a safety measure.Whenthe car was moving the AC stayed on, apparently because the alternator wassupplying a greater power source.Mybattery was indeed near the end of its life but worked fine otherwise.I am now cool at stop lights!

Re: a/c compressor turns on and off constantly
My 2008 Honda Accord was blowing not so cold air so I decided to get the set Emzone multi pack with sealant kit. After putting all three cans in the system now the AC fan runs for 2 sec and then turns off. When the fan is off the PSI is at about 68-70 and when it turns on seems like it goes to approximately 40-50 PSI. I'm not sure if I overcharged the system or if the sealant retrial has clogged up the system causing this behaviour. Any help is appreciated.
