Default A/C compressor took a dump...

One of the main case seals on my 92 accord's compressor blew. It's a Denso 10PA17C. I've got a nice green puddle underneath it. The car has already been converted to 134.
My question is, do these seals just blow from age or is there another problem that would cause it to blow? I hate to put a compressor in it and the same thing happen. The ac had been working great nice and cold, with no noticeable decrease in performance...until of course the compressor wouldn't come on and then noticing the wet compressor housing. In regards to another suspect problem...what should I look for/do?

I guess I could just put a compressor and a drier on it and then check it with gauges and if everything checks out I'm good but if my pressures are off/too high then start looking? Anybody? Thanks in advance.
