Basically, you can do a visual check of it- check for wear/discoloration on the journals, any obvious scoring/cracks, etc. But the only way you're going to be SURE is to take PRECISE measurements, ie. Outside micrometer to check for journal size, out-of-roundness, and taper. Also, straightness is checked with a dial indicator. Again, these are all things that should be done PRIOR to installing the crankshaft into your engine. If your buying it from some "Joe", it may be too late after you identify a problem.

For B16, it's:

- 2.1644-2.1654 for 1,2,4, and 5 MAINS. #3 is 2.1642-2.1651
- Rod Journals : 1.7707-1.7717

Again, this if for a B16, B17 should be close, ask the dealer or someone with a B17 Helm's, they can give you the exacts.
