buying a used crank what to look for?
Basically, you can do a visual check of it- check for wear/discoloration on the journals, any obvious scoring/cracks, etc. But the only way you're going to be SURE is to take PRECISE measurements, ie. Outside micrometer to check for journal size, out-of-roundness, and taper. Also, straightness is checked with a dial indicator. Again, these are all things that should be done PRIOR to installing the crankshaft into your engine. If your buying it from some "Joe", it may be too late after you identify a problem.
