burning a quart of oil in 30 miles.....
alright i just got this car today and its an ls vtec w/jdm b16 pistons. the guy only built it a little over a year ago. well i drove it home and i was 2 quarts low after 70 miles. the engine couldnt possibly run with rings that were that bad...could it? just wondering if the pcv valce could be the culprit or what anyone things about this. oh yeah and the guy said he saw oil in the intake manifold when he took it off once.
oil in the intake mani is normal. from the pcv system. but a quart of oil in 30 miles, hard driving or not, it's either leaking badly or burning it. if burning, either rings or valve seals. so the guy who built it didn't know what he was doing, or the previous owner beat the hell out of it. sorry to hear that.
yeah im beginning to believe he didnt know what he was doing. it was burning oil for him when he had it so he must has screwed something up. i have an extra gsr head thats been completely gone over. i still dont wanna believe its the rings but ill do a compression check and find out.

not bad. but if its burning that bad, you need to pull the motor and redo some of that build. and if your looking for a source of info on how to assemble a motor correctly, the omni man b16 video is one of the best instructional vids i've come accross

i believe i found the problem, ripped the head off, replacing the entire head with one i know has been gone thru. the problem was in fact the pcv valve was basically non exhistant. the hose it was connected to had oil residue in it and the intake manifold was covered in a layer of oil(inside).

And i would be leery if there was oil in the intaske manifold, becuase yea if the pcv was bad that could be caused by to much crankcase pressure. which would indicate bad rings. If you have the engine out you cant do a leak down test, but that is what you really need to do
