Default built d16 overheating...

after 20 mins or so of driving, my temp gauge goes up then down. When I stop driving, I find my overflow full, and the cooling system missing coolant. I then pour the overflow back into the system and the remainder sits at the min mark when im done filling the cooling system. This happens all the time. the car consumes NO coolant (as indicated by the same amount always being left in the overflow) and the compression is even across the board. the thermostat is a new one from honda and the rad. cap has been replaced too. I was thinking compression to coolant leak (headgasket) but the no loss of coolant, good compression and great performance indicate otherwise. i am using the stock half size civic radiator and the motor description is in my sig... any suggestions not covered here please help...thx

Did you bleed the cooling system?

it willheat up at idle only after it heated up and dumped the coolant while driving...but...it will always go down. i am relapcing the HG on monday with a hylomar coated tri metal HG and checking the head to see if its warped at all. the funny thing is itll heat up indepentdent of driving condition..ill be on it and itll be fine yet while cruising itll go up then down, the whole time dumping coolant into overflow.

reply i know this is gonna sound stupid but is your fan wired correctly, spinning the right way. i had a couple of friends do this wrong, they had the fan blowing thru the rad. instead of pulling thru it. the cars would be fine at idle but as soon as they started to move, u get the pic.

I know that I am new here but I think I might be able to give some advice. I have installed alot of zc's and I have noticed that if you aren't really really careful about bleeding the air out of the coolant they like to overheat. I know that you said that it was a b16, but I thought that it might help. Also, on third gen preludes there is a wierd water hose t on the back of the block if you don't hook this up correctly it will basically bypass the thermostat, and the car will cool too much.

Hopefully this helps. If not just ignore

is the cooling fan coming on at all?

Could be your engine temp sensor - located right near the neck that holds the thermostat.

yeah its a d16...umm yes, the fan is comin on at the right times...it also is runnin the right way, i know what u mean...but the wiring is all stock for the fan, never been toyed with. i got a new trimetal HG, some hylomar, and new headbolts and im gonna change it when i get around to it next week...the cars has not done it in 3 days, but thats prolly do to my extremely lite driving, my hunch is the car at 7-8k is lifting the head a bit or atleastopening up a lil imperfection in the sealing of the HG...so im goin to check the head on th milling jig and if its not strait take like 5 thou off, then throw it back together...after talking with a few well versed honda geeks, many think the high cr is too much for the stock haed bolts/hg/50 overbore equation. we'll see, as alot of people have been successful with this build. thanks for the respnoces all...
