Default Broken valve spring retainer - very bad??

Engine: H22A

Problem: Broken valve spring retainer.

Question: Does that guarantee that somethings fucked up really bad? Will a valve fall into the cylinder if a valve spring retainer breaks? Will I have to replace the head?

I am tearing the head off tomorrow, I was just wondering if I should be on the lookout for a new head.

Any insight would be helpful.

Thanks!

if the area that holds the valve lock widened up allowing the keepers to sink down it may result in physical damage to the valve.

ie: bent valve, might as well check for valve guide wear.

Physical damage to the valve? Or to the head? I just am unsure if I am going to have to replace the head or not... I guess I will know how to describe more once I get the head pulled off...
