Default Broken plug: Need info

Okay so as I was wiring up my mini-me, dpfi to mpfi today I noticed this...(referr to pic below)
I know it broke recently as my car hasn't been running for a few days. Can anyone tell me what this sensor is? There were a red an black wire coming from the plug, not sure if it's solid red or not but it looked like it. I believe it is the fan switch but I'm almost positive that's wrong lol. Any help Is welcomed. OH it's a d-series obviously, I noticed the same plug location on my Y8 head so I assume it's something the common for all D Series motors. Thanks ya'll!

I just noticed the picture is cocked sideways, it looks like the right side is supposed to be the bottom, the left is the top.

ECT sensor (TW sensor), sends temperature signal to the ECU

No. It sends the signal to your ecu. The one next to it with a single wire is for your gauge.

Okay then I take it it's a bad idea to leave it off then? I don't totally understand why the ECU would need that signal besides to turn the fan on? Care to shed a little bit of light on that?

there are 3 temp sensors

Single wire on head - Gauge cluster

2 wire next to it on head - To ECU

same plug with 2 wires on Thermostat housing - turns on fan

The ecu needs a coolant temp signal to go into closed loop. (google it)

I have googled it haven't really came up with much.

And thanks fliptard that's what I was looking for. I have manually activated fans so I can take that plug from the thermostat housing! Thanks guys for the help:D

That's actually really good info. I found another one that just basicly said "It tells the ECU if the motor is hot or cold and helps adjust the fuel." That thread you just posted goes into extreme detail! Thank you really good knowledge there.

Also I am wiring up the plug from the switch that turns on the rad fan, the colors for that one at grey and light green, and the one for the open/closed loop temp switch are dark green/yellow and red/yellow, does anyone know what color is top or bottom?
