Default Help - Broken exhaust mani stud

I've searched and read a lot, still can't get it out. Tried vice grips and a stud extractor. I can't get a drill in there to tap it. Unless anyone knows of a really small drill. Any help will be awesome

This has the potensial to be a big problem.

There is dirt in the threads, ripping up aluminium and jamming it togeter.

Get yourself a stud remover. It locks around the stund with a wheel. You may remove the shield and alternator to get it fit.

Then, spray thin oil into the threads.

Use a impact gun to loosen the stud. The impakt gun uses small pulses of torqe and looses the stud. If you use a big wrench, the torque may rip the stud in half.

If you are luckey, this will work.

Do not try heat from a act. oxy torch. The heat will make the stud harden when cooling and you may not be able to bore the stud out if that is the last way.

Good luck.

I tired a stud remover but the stud wasn't long enough to reach the wheels. Maybe I can find a different kind of stud remover.

I can't fit any large tool in there.. motor is still in my car.

long shot.. but if you have a tig you could weld an extension on it.. i had to do that a few months ago.. it was tough to get it clean enough to weld.. and it took a few tries before I got a good enough weld to get it loose with an impact gun.

try a tool store, they work great. The more you apply twisting force to it, the harder it clamps on. We removed some real rusty studs from an old escort engine with it.

The bolt outs really only work if there is a head on the bolt and it's just stripped. I'd suggest the other tool someone suggested on here.
