okay i think i may have a broken Differential. here are the symptoms. i turn one wheel on one side the other wheel turns also same direction, but it would do it sometimes then it would stop. i hear clicking from the tranny. could it still be the axles or the tranny is gone? thanks guys

differentals dont just break like that.
change your tranny fluid, check your axles. (not much free play in the joints)
if it STILL does it, remove an axle and look at the diff.

 

 

No they don't. So... what were you doing with the car right before this happened? Also, in case you don't know, the wheels will turn the same direction if you have a LSD, opposite direction if you don't.

 

i was going up a hill, downshifted then i heard a pop. when i turn the wheels should it feel smooth either if i had an lsd or non lsd diff? not sure if i have an lsd cuz when i bought the motor i just knew it was a b16 tranny.

well you might have an LSD then.

 

update i just pulled out the passenger side axle.. i loook inside the tranny hole and i see a gear or something in there. i stick a screwdriver inside and it is free floating inside. so safe to say its a blow diff? or is it suppose to float? thanks

can you see completley through the differental?
no big metal bar?

 

when i look into the hole of the axle was i see the gear that can float. then i see a i guess you can say a metal bar. that goes across.

no the car doesnt drive good. when i drive it, would seem like it would skip like goooo pop then gooo like its missing a gear or something. imagine the car running then you here a thud or pop car doesnt really want to go when you give gas then something would grab then it would go again

if there is a metal bar or "floating gear" as you put it, that means you do not have an LSD

 

You should be able to see clear through from one end to the other correct?

 

only if its an LSD.

as for the bar, can you move it without the differental moving? meaning can you spin in but neithre of the axle sockets move?

 

Interesting. I'm going to have to check on mine. I just dropped my gsr tranny and casually noticed I could see clear through to the other side.

But that's for the morning. Bed time...

 

I am having a similar problem with my tranny. At least the clicking part of it. I was also told that it is probably a worn or toasted differential.

 

what type of differentials are the stock Honda/Acura differentials?

the only car to come with LSD is the type R.
in japan its an option on all b series equipped cars except the integra LS'

 

I know ITRs are the only Honda that comes with LSD, but I'm asking what type of LSD is ITR's LSD? Clutch, viscous, etc?
