Breaking in MOTOR?
Is it good to break in a Brand new motor using Mobile 1 Fully Synthetic? I know this is tottally off key but when i was sitting in class today at Nti. Some of the guys were saying that i think it was Chevy use and break in there new motors using Mobile 1 Fully Synthetic. Now what are the benfits of doing that? I heard your not suppossed to do that but why in the world would a huge company like that do something like that? Sorry for the long post
You are going to get conflicting answers on this one, but IMO no. Use regular motor oil and don't switch to synthetic until (if at all) 10k.
I heard the same thing. There was a big debate somewhere about the Corvettes coming with Synthetic oil already in the engine. I'm not sure if it is true, but when dealing with Hondas it is better to stick with regular oil for the break-in process. Using the regular oil helps the seat the rings better. Also, when breaking in your engine you would be changing the oil frequently so using synthetic oil would become very costly.
THe engines of today do nopt need brakin cose they do not use the old kork seals and nasty oil , so they do not need to cure .... got it?????

That's quite a write-up...
:Cliff's notes-This guy sez that rather than doing the normal "easy break-in" you should break in hard and fast to ensure proper ring sealing.:
So has anyone here used this method? It seems a little "iffy", but that's what he said the normal response is.
Any1?

Ok im in the process of rebuildingmy gsr motor right woth CTR pistons and such, and im confused on what break in process to use. There are oto many conflicting answers. Anyone ever tried the "hard break in?" Im confused. I want my engine to last as long as it can.

You are correct. One is not to start using synthetic lubrication untill the motor is completely broken in. Period. Use traditional oil, use it for atlest a 5k, then decide whether you wnat to use the syntyhetic stuff. But there is a reason it`s not a recomended practice.
