brake question...

when i hear that screeching sound from my brakes that tell me i need to change something...what do i need to change and whats making that noise? TIA

Sometimes you just need to wash them off becuase the brake dust builds up, but yea if their really screeching when you slow down its time for some new pads. 20 miniute job for me now, both sides.

on a FWD car do i only change the front pads? and whats actually making the noise?
