My brake pads rattle while driving and going over bumps. I need help
Well like stated when I go over bumps at any speed my brake pads (What I think it is anyways, ill explain) rattle and shake and it is very loud, this includes pot holes and even the smallest cracks in the road, it is becoming very irritating.
My attemps to fix this problem include inspecting for leaks, changing the pads with new clips and applying brake grease to the new pads as well bleeding the brakes. Now when I bleed the brakes it takes care of the noise for about 2 or 3 days depending on how much I drive and the noise comes back. My brake fluid level never changes and I also noticed my brake pedal feels as if my brakes are no longer bled as well.

I'll bet its not your brake pads. Probably something to do with the rim or hub and everytime u take off your rim it does something to the loose part and the noise goes away. the brake pads are held tightly. if it is the pads take the shrims off.

oh and when I press on the brakes while going over bumps there is no noise. Ive had two different sets of rims on so I know its not the rims, and i dont see how when I bleed the brakes it stops having anything to with the hub? And as in shims you mean the clips that go on the caliper side of the bads?

I had the same noise and it was due to me forgetting to install the metal clips that hold the pads in place.

Lol that is how it would seem however the pads I have on there I installed and I bought them brand spankin' new with new clips (I thought this was also originally the problem). I'm thinking it has something to do with the pressure in my brake lines? Like I said when I push my brakes the pedal sinks all the way to the floor, when I hold my brakes slightly while going over the bumps the noise is gone; without pressing the brakes I get the noise. When I bleed my brakes the problem stops for a couple of days and my brakes and pedal are both fine, but eventually starts to rattle again? Could the be a problem with my brake booster possibly, I dont think there is a leak anywhere with no fluid being losses...? I usually don't have to get on here to figure my problems out but this one honestly has me stumped lol.

Ok just so everyone is on the same page....
The exploded parts view is of a 1993 Civic EX front brakes
#13, #14, & #15 are the brake pad shims
#13 is 45225-SR3-V01 SHIM A (INNER) $4.89,
#14 is 45226-SR3-V01 SHIM B (INNER) $4.89 &
#15 is 45228-SR3-V01 SHIM, PAD (OUTER) $4.89
#19 and #20 are the brake pad springs (AKA anti-rattle clips)
#19 is 45237-SR3-003 RETAINER A $4.78
#20 is 45238-SR3-003 RETAINER B $4.78
The noise is either from the brake pad springs (#19 and #20 because they are either missing, bent or installed backwards- i.e. the top one on the bottom and the bottom on the top) or you do not have the shims correctly installed on the pads. By this parts pic you see that the inboard pad (caliper piston side) has TWO shims, and the outboard pad (wheel side) has only one.
As for your sinking pedal, either the master cylinder is bad (ie leaking internally, which is why the reservoir level isn't dropping) or you DID NOT properly bleed the system.

Lol the sinking pedal has to do with the rattling brakes, they both begin at the same time... the rattling starts and the pedal begins to sink... I did bleed the brakes correctly lol three times to count now... I will have to check the 19 and 20 and if they are fine that leaves me with the master cylinder to check out... right?

let me add that the clips i was originally talking about in this quote are parts 13 and 15 in the picture, is that the same as trustdestruction and others were talking about?.... I dont see how this effects the pedal, unless both are bad? lol wait wait.... why is everything fine right after I bleed the brakes, and then again every time I bleed my brakes.... I must have the clips, I think its more the master cylender? can you explode a pic on that please?

Re: My brake pads rattle while driving and going over bumps. I need help
o man, im kinda having the same problem, but not as bad, i have a 95 civic 4door lx. i upgraded to a brembo drill and slotted rotors, with hawk pads. the day i installed them one of the clips snapped, so i installed anyways and road for about 3 days, and had a problem with the brake pedals sinking to the floor, turned out to be a small leak on one of the lines. got that fixed, and bled the brakes once again. they felt fine nice and high and stiff when the car was off, but when on sunk a bit more, but didnt loose pressure. now i just got my brake hardware kit and installed them, and at first there was noise, but not much more now. and yes. it does matter wich clips you put on each side. how loud is the screeching?

fyi, off topic sorta, but brembo doesn't make slotted and drilled, it's either slotted OR drilled. if you actually have brembo rotors, then someone else did that work to the Brembo regular full face rotors and this is very dangerous.

Really? I'm gonna look it up, thanks.. I figured I had the same problem, I advise he checks the clips and see if there rubbing against the rotors. The fact that he looses pressure after a while could be that it has an internal leak in the

The fact that the brakes loose pressure, and you have to repeatedly bleed them must mean something is wrong with your master cylinder and or brake booster. Do your brakes make noise while taking sharp turns as well?

have you tried changing the hubs out? you might have a warped rotor or one of the bearings went bad.

Re: My brake pads rattle while driving and going over bumps. I need help
I have similar issue on 2012 CRV. Rattle noise started after I has new brake pads and rotors installed all around. The rattle noise occurs over moderately rough road surfaces and is coming from rear, When I tap the brakes the noise seems to go away. Very annoying and would appreciate any advise. I have taken it back to mechanic but he hasn't fixed it to date. Can believe it is calipers but seems like something not done correctly when the pads were replaced.
