brake pads changed....now SQUEEAAAKKKK
my front right rotor squeaks when im rolling under 20 mph. the squeak stops when i start to apply the brakes. i put some brake parts lube on the back sides of the pads and still it squeaks.
this started happening after i changed the front pads.
one question i have is
those thin metal sheets that go on the very outside of the pad> are they necessary? my rotor seems to be squeaking cuz my brakes are slightly applied with no brake pedal pressure
Ive tried taking them out and putting them back in
Ive used brake cleaner on the rotor and pads
Ive tried slamming my brakes to maybe burn off the squeak =\
thanks for any help

Yes those this metal sheilds should be used along with the gunmetal/black brake sauce . That sauce smeared over the thin covers prevents the squeaking from happening. Try puttin those sheilds on and adding the sauce..lol

did u resuface the rotors? did u lube the ends of the pads(part where it sits on the caliper? those thing metal sheets (shims) do help so leave them on.
im thinking u didnt resurface your rotors. if thats the case then use the brakes so the pads can set in. dont slam on the brakes. take it easy.

i could be wrong but shouldnt you not do that with new pads. you got to let then brake in a little before you slam on them

Might wanna try to resurface both your rotors...thats if the rotors are still under specs. If they rotors aren't under specs then you'll need 2 new front rotors.
As for the pads u do not want to slam on the brakes at all when they are new, u wanna give it about 20-30 stops and don't follow to close or drive it to hard the reason for being, if you don't let the pads seat in then your brakes won't work correctly might even need new hardware kit as well.
If the pedal doesn't feel right then if you have rear drums then get it cleaned and adjusted or get a brake flush. After you install everything go easy on your brakes for about 20-30 stops till the pads seat in and everything brakes in. Might wanna go ahead and get yourself a set of ceramic brake pads because they are the highest quality of material used for pads. Plus they don't leave brake dust on the wheels and don't squeek at all.

just a quick question...do you need to break-in new brake pads? if so, how and how long? i heard that after installation of new pads you have to drive around and brake hard. is that true?

to properly seat new pads, drive around normal for 20-30 minutes.
after that do a series 5 or so 60-20 mph stops each time getting progressively harder (more stopping power) ultimately causing the brakes to get hot, (but dont let them smoke). after the series is complete let them cool down to an ambient temp and you should be good to go!
