Default Bogging problem

I ran into a bogging problem...the kind where when you step on the gas, it goes away, then bogs again when you let off the gas. I was near empty on gas and checked my oil and had about a quart left. After filling up the tank and adding a quart of oil, the bogging seemed to have gone away. Does anyone think this may have solved the problem. FYI, I replaced the fuel pump about 1000 miles ago and am running no O2 sensors (I'm using a PR3/OBD0 ecu with a header that uses one O2 bung, so I cut the connections for these) and has been running fine since. The motor I'm running is a 1st gen B16 in a 4G hatch. Thanks in advance to those who can help out.
