Blown Head Gasket Diagnosis
Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and I have a question about a diagnosis I got from the Honda Dealership. I took my 91 Civic in to have the fuel system pressurized b/c it has been smelling like fuel for a while now. They told me I needed a new tank and lines and that I had a major head gasket leak. I asked them how they determined that the head gasket was leaking and they said that when the took the rad cap off, fluid shot out. They said that this was a sign of back pressure in the coolent system because of a head gasket leak. I haven't noticed any power loss or oil in the coolent or vise versa.
I guess I'm asking if this is an accurate way to determine a head gasket leak, or if it's nothing to worry about?
Thanks in advance,
Adam

I wouldnt call that the BEST way to determine if you have a bad headgasket... but a blown HG will sometimes blow thru to the coolant system... (fairly often on a d-series)
Have you ever done a HG on your motor? because it probably needs one regardless of what they told you. There is a replacement gasket that you are supposed to use on those d-series motors... the stock one is a composite metal, and the suggested replacement is a layered metal...
you should just plan to do the gasket regardless... thats my advice. take it for what its worth.
