Default Blown diff/tranny?

Today I noticed my tranny making a weird clunking/tick noise while in neutral and rolling.
I also spotted a nice 2" hole in my tranny and im losing lotas of oil from it.
Is my diif gone?
Can I use a 86-89 teg auto diff or a 88-91 civic diff? Its a 89 teg 5 sp tranny
The tranny seems to work fine just for that clunk noise and the big hole, which I coudl get welded assuming the tranny is repiarable.

get a new tranny. you prolly blew up your ring gear on your diff. dont try and put a new diff in unless you are replacing all of the bearing cauase there are all sorts of metal bits floating around in there now
