Re: Blower Motors Works on speeds 3/4 but not 1/2 - FIX + How-To
how about my problemo????
ok... quick question here.....
i drive a 90 civic lx sedan with a crx dash swap
i got my a/c working!! yay!!!
but theres a problem....
and i dont know if i ever noticed it til today, but.............
my car has a crx dash conversion.
when i turn up the air full blast, it seems like its on the 1st position on the climate control guage.even going from position 1 to 4 theres a bit of difference.
now, i hear the blower motor blowing full blast..... but, it just blows weak out of the vents. are ef's like this or do i have a problem?
i dont know how it was before i put the dash in ,or after because i never used the vents. i only used the defroster.
well, i went digging around and screwed with alot of bolts. found a mouse nest in the dash....
blows the same...
messed with the box thingy behind the glove box...
blows the same...
is this normal, or is there a problem?
are there any "cabin filters

Great thread for such a simple fix that may make some people, like myself scratch their heads. Thanks!

Syndacate, a million thanks for your excellently illustrated solution.
Last summer, my 2001 Honda CR-V's A/C suddenly began blowing warm air on high and could not be adjusted nor turned off as long as the car was running. I finally took out the A/C fuse just to turn the thing off, and went without a heater or A/C for nearly a year.
Finally my husband (a great guy but totally non-mechanical) talked to a Honda service department near his office; they told him it would likely be a $1500-$2000 repair.
I told him for $500 I'd learn to rebuild the whole darned engine myself, and set about googling for a solution.
Your fix worked perfectly on my car, excepting that I found the resistor mounted inside the blower motor housing rather than atop it. All it took though was the removal of three screws under the motor, slipping the motor out of the housing, and I could access and remove the resistor. The resistor did not look like yours--more high tech and enclosed--but same function, same location. A $36 part from my local Honda dealer, a few more minutes with the screwdriver, and shazaam--my A/C works perfectly!
Considering that I haven't worked on a car since I was a teen with a geriatric '69 Mustang, I feel particularly triumphant. Thanks again for your superb instructions, and for the helpful comments of the other participants in this thread.

Is there a chance that a bad resistor would cause the motor to run normally and then slowly over a period of 10-15 minutes stop?

You might have just saved Christmas! Thanks! My '09 Fit just blew for speed 1-4 (fortunately 4 still works). Local Honda dealer wants to charge $200.

Re: Blower Motors Works on speeds 3/4 but not 1/2 - FIX + How-To
I have an 88Si. the blower motrr would not work on speed seting number 1 (low) for years buti didn't worry about it as i still had 2-4. now it will not work on any speed setting. i jumped the blower and it comes on, and i checked the fan control switch and it is fine. i have good ground on the main harness. any thoughts? is the resistor causing this? also my heat/ac control until face is cracked/broken, to where the temp control usnit has broken of the fan/air seeting portion. isther a fix for this or do i need to find a "new" control unit?

I have a USDM 1993 Civic Si EG hatchback.. my blower only works on the highest '4' setting. Is there a chance replacing this would fix it? because 1-3 do not work at all.. :/

^^^ i would say yea but maybe pull your resistor pack and take a peek at it... I know some people say you can't tell is it's bad.. But mine was very noticeable..

My speeds 1-2 stopped working Friday. Thanks to the OP. I have directions printed out, and part to be picked up today at AutoZone.

Yes, it should fix your problem, speed 4 is a direct connection from the speed control switch 1-3 speeds go through the blower resistor. 94

Re: Blower Motors Works on speeds 3/4 but not 1/2 - FIX + How-To
Well, all four speeds worked last night upon plugging the new resistor in place, but this morning I had no air coming from the blower at all. Looks like some additional trouble shooting this weekend.

I know this is slightly old, but anybody know where this is located in a 98 integra? I want to try it today! Like using my AC but wanna use it on 2 or 3, it's spring and not TOO hot, but don't like having the windows down on the highway...

Re: Blower Motors Works on speeds 3/4 but not 1/2 - FIX + How-To
I meant to say the Blower Motor Resistor but I found it! Just took out my glove box and there it sat. Got one from autozone for 25.99, put it in and BAM it worked!
Then one I took out looked JACKED UP. Almost looked nothing like the one I installed, but now it works great. I was having troubles with my idle dropping really bad with the AC on. I don't mean just when I turn it on, I mean every few seconds it would drop while I was idling. Works perfect now.
Now.. there is a pretty bad rattling noise at times, usually when I take turns. Kinda sounds like when you would put a baseball card in the spokes of a bicycle. It happened in my 93 Integra as well. Maybe that's for another forum.
But to the O.P. If you're still around. THANKS A MILLION!

Re: Blower Motors Works on speeds 3/4 but not 1/2 - FIX + How-To
This 5 year old thread saved me! Thanks so much to the OP if you are still around on here.
I live in Honolulu, Hawaii. I have a 1990 CRX SI. It stopped blowing on setting 1 about a year ago. Settings 2-4 were still good. I could get my A/C running cold and drop it to setting 2, but it was still too cold at times. I have about a 30 minute commute to and from work so the low setting would definitely come in handy.
I found this thread last night. This morning, I called my neighborhood napa store who had the resister in stock. Pulled out my broken resister in 5 minutes using the instructions on this thread. Super easy. Picked up the new resister. It cost me $45 bucks with tax. I'm not sure if its cause I'm in Hawaii, or the price is just higher now from 5 years ago.
Got home, slapped that sucker in, and now I'm enjoying my "1" setting again.
Mahalos!

Re: Blower Motors Works on speeds 3/4 but not 1/2 - FIX + How-To
Thanks to the OP! My wife mentioned that the fan wasn't working on the first two speeds and when I "sorta" forgot about it, she found your post and showed it to me. We don't drive that '98 Civic too much so it wasn't a priority for me. Your post was so well done and you made it look so easy that I had no good excuse for not fixing it. Many thanks for a great post. It just took me a few minutes to do the job, that's the best kind of "Honey-do".
