blowby questions
i understand that blowby is when the piston rings are not sealing very well and letting blowby gases/oil to burn in the combustion chamber thus producing bluish smoke. what i would like to know is, when oil/oil vapor gets pass the rings do they get burn with air fuel before being expelled to the exhaust thus the smoke? OR do raw oil gets expelled to the exhaust thus the bluish smoke?
can this be a case of piston ring blow by:
- during cold start or the first start after engine cool down a bit, there's no smoke. if the car was driven above, say, 4k rpm and then letting it idle there will be huge amount of smoke like something underneath the car is on fire. i have no muffler at the moment, just a resonator and an exhaust pipe hence the smoke is coming from underneath.
-while idling and blowing bluish smoke out, i take off the dipstick but no smoke from the dipstick hole.
- no smoke from the breather.
- no oil on all spark plugs and they all burn evenly
- oil sludge in the exhaust pipe
i've yet to let a shop compression and leakdown test on the engine so i like to hear your opinions first.

do a compression and leakdown test....
it sound's like it could be rings or valve seals...
either one if bad enough can lead to both blue smoke and oil sludge in the exhaust... the no oil on plugs thing is wierd though...
are you sure it's coming OUT of the exhaust and not just off of it... you could have a simple oil leak somewhere that's dumping out onto the exhaust.
how does the car run?

the car runs fine and strong. yes it's wierd that there's no traces of oil on the plugs. there's no smoke coming out of the dipstick hole as well.
by the way, forgot to mention that the car is turbocharged and yes i've posted this in the FI section before. could it be my turbo oil seal? but the local garrett distributor told me that if it's the turbo oil seal then it'll also smoke during idle.
i was going to let a shop to the compression and leakdown test but have no time yet and so i thought of asking it here first.
