I ran my car at the track last night and after the first run, i noticed a ticking sound coming from what sounds like the head. So i pulled the dipstick and checked for smoke. Nothing. Pulled the oil cap and smoke comes billowing out for a second, and then nothing. But when i put my hand over it, i can feel a ton of air blowing out almost as if exaust is coming directly out of the valve cover. One of my friends told me to just do a valve adjustment, while the other tried to convince me it was blow by. The car also burns oil (like half a quart every 3k miles) but otherwise runs fine. Setup is a d16z6 w/ ihi rb25 running 7 pounds of boost. After i noticed the air blowing out of the valve cover, i basically put the oil cap back on, slammed my hood and got back in line. it runs fine but i know somethings not right. Any help? Doing the compression test tommorow, i'll let you know the results.

 

I was burning close to a quart every week on my previous all motor setup. I had a feeling something was wrong but the guy who help me build my motor kept saying I was paranoid. I eventually earned a small crack in my cylinder wall and took it to my cousin's homie who builds race motors and he took my motor apart and laughed. He said, "whoever put together your bottom end did not know what he was doing." To make a long story short...there was a huge blowby in one of my chambers and thats the reason I was burning massive amounts of oil.
I agree with doing a compression test to see what numbers you get and if you are still concerned....I recommend going to a qualified mechanic for their opinion.
