Default Block machining questions.

I'm just curious, say I have a set of ACL race bearings (main and rod), is it possible to safely manipulate the clearance between the bearing and the crankshaft by line honing the mains/rods too tight or too loose? It seems like it would work but I'm not sure if it's that great of an idea, if you CAN get away with it, how much of an increase or decrease in clearance is generally allowed?

Thanks!

There is very little adjustment there.Too big and the bearing loses it's crush or press fit in the bore and the bearing is likely to spin.Too tight and the bearing will be too small at the parting line and scrape the oil film off the crank and fail. We're talking a few tenths one way or the other.

So say you just wanted to close them down by another .0002-.0003" you would be fine. I mean ACL race bearings only open them up .001". But that's kind of what I figured, not a smart thing to do imo but it's not going to spin unless you're stupid with it.

Ok cool, thanks!
