Default Block guard...is it worth it?

Sup, guys! I'm looking to rebuild my boosted 95 LS block with aftermarket CP 9.0:1 pistons and Eagle rods, and wanted to inquire about block guard. I know sleeving the block is the way to go, but dont have the cash for them, not to mention the labor costs for a qualified machine shop to install them, I cant believe the tolerances on those things!

Will the block guard work just as good for boosted applications? Any info will be appreciated.

dont bother. stock sleeves can hold 350-400whp. more if you're feeling lucky.

Well the guard would be better than stock. IMO I would do the block guard. Stock sleeves and pushing 350hp is just asking for catastrophe. You can post the block if your not going to use the block guard/sleeve.http://homemadeturbo.com/tech_....html

block posting is ghetto. the amount it would cost to properly install a block guard is better spent towards sleeves.

Talked to a local machine shop from around the way that deals with a lot of racecars, and they gave me a reasonable rate to do my block. I may bite the bullet and eat cold cuts for a while and sleeve it.

Not gonna take any chances, cuz a stock block and a boost addiction is NOT a very good combo, haha!

IMO block guards are only good for 1 thing and that is saving your block from becoming non resleevable. So if your flirting with disaster, I believe its good to install a block guard, It'll save you money on the long run. Just my 0.02

block gaurds are pointless unless they are welded in or custom made for your block https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1959207 <-------and this is why i think that

i wouldnt trust just any machine shop to do sleeves in a honda. they're totally different than doing them for a v8 or something.

When I say racecars, i mean in general. I found out they deal with 4 cyl. engines as well as v8's, including B-series motors. Met a guy named Jerome that had his block and head fully done there.

Didnt realize they were under my nose all the time.

I've seen some ls/vtec on here running 600+whp with a block guard
I would use it as cheap insurance for a N/A engine, when boring and honing

Don't just press it in; have a machine shop weld it in and rehone the cylinder walls

I have since been adivised: block guards aren't nessesarry and cause hot spots
