Default Blew a hole in the side of my transmission casing

ok so i bought this LS tranny that has been sitting for maybe 6-12 months

I put it on my car, it ran great for a couple days. but then i started to see smoke on the way home yesterday.

when i pulled up into my garage, i saw a trail of transmission oil from behind.

I WAS LIKE WTF!!

jacked up the car, and saw a quarter size hole on the side of the transmission casing, right next to the shift linkage.

what could have made this happen?

everthing was hooked up correctly.

all the gears work perfect, no grinds or hard shifting.

thx for any help

-Brandon

Could be anything. Maybe a bolt got loose in the tranny and it hit the diff and was shot out.
Could have hit something in the road that bounced somehow and hit it.
Most likely, something in the case came loose....

I wonder if a bolt flew off your ring gear? I can't think of anything else that would do that.

such minor damge damage......

sounds like the retaining pin for the diff cross pin broke and worked it's way out.
