Big Newbie Question
My husband and I are helping out my cousin with his 95 civic hatch. He blew the motor and we are swapping it out for him. I was wondering how hard it was to do a straight swap and what all extra we needed to know. (sorry we're more DSM people!) Anyway, the car is also supercharged so if anyone know's if this is going to be more than just a day, or weekend task please give all the tips you can! Thanks in advance!
What motor are u swaping from and to? (The motor # is stamped on the block right next to where the tranny meets the motor) for example B18C1 or B18C5. Or does "straight swap" mean your staying with the same engine sieres? Anyway I would bet on a weekend.
I know it's not a B18 and he's not going to upgrade to one... But I can't say for sure what he has in it now (I haven't had the chance to look at the motor since he's blown it). The poor kid is only 18 and knows nothing about cars other than getting speeding tickets so his parents are making him sell the car once we get it up and running again!
Thanks for the help though!
Thanks for the help though!
If you putting the same sieres with identical engine codes not to much should be needed. A new intake manifold gasket for the super charger, exhuast manifold gaskets and pretty much you will see as you go if there is anything else which needs to be replace. It is recommended that you change out the timing belt, water pump, and timing belt tensioners when ever you do an engine swap. For the fact the you never really know when the last time it was changed.
