Default A better cat?

Random, Catco, Powercore, Etc... Any input on aftermarket catalytic converters would be appreciated (cleaning capability, fitment, quality and performance). I have to get a new cat on my car to pass inspection.

buy the cheapest one. they all serv the same function and that is to lower emissions and create some back pressure. just buy a bolt on one for smog and another one for race or high perf. street driving.

i have an 98 ls, a 94 gsr, and a 95 gsr. i use a test pipe for the ls on track use only and works great for performance but stinks really bad. the 94 gsr has a random high flow cat and that works okay too you can feel a little bit more mid range but it does not do a great job of lowering emissions to pass it takes a long time time to heat it up just right to pass. the 95 gsr uses the oem style cat and it passes great. passes with with no hesitation. hope that kinda helped you out.

if you dont have a obd2 car just smash out the ceramic web inside of the catalitic convertor. if you have a obd 2 car the secondary o2 sensor will sense the extra heat and throw a secondary 02 code.

Thanks Bearingburner and Rainforest.

And maybe I should clear things up for everyone else. The reason I have to get a new cat, is that I have gutted the original a few years ago. Since then I've done some other work to the car and I know it won't pass smog without a functioning cat. I bought a Random for my wifes car about a year ago, it does the job. But then again, that car is bone stock. And that Random cat rattled like hell until the heatshield fell off. Ironically, on the way over to the shop so that I could cut it off!

Anyone using a Powercore or Catco?

I have an Airmass cat. Had it on the CRX. The I cut it and welded an extention to fit my EG. It had a universal fit, which went fine for me. Retailed at $190 at Napa. They sold it to me for $107.
