none of the above.

girdle? mm if you do lots of high speed runs with lots of stress on the motor.
block guard..they suck

look into block posting if you want reiforcement on the sleeves and balance for high rpm stability

With a B20 you will def want replace the rod bolts for sure this is even if you dont want to rev on a consitant basis.
The girdles are good to have if you have the cash but not always needed and sometime cause more damage then good(most of the time the installers mistake)
Block guards are a very controversial topic some say yes some say no. I know some people have ran them and liked and some that didnt like. Personally, I dont feel that a block guard does any good(my opinion) but it all depends on the intended application.

the b20 walls are thin, put some sleeves in, not a blockguard

a girdle relieves stress from the crank its nice to have but not necessary the block gaurd can cause more harm than good due to improper installation, the main reason they are popular because before we had many options like today that was it block gaurd or posting it , but now that sleeving has become an option block gaurds are not needed. the problem with block gaurds is that if installed uneven (like in most cases) it will throw the bore out of round to say the least.. soo with that being said save some money sleeve it and never look back... hope that help

besides improper installation; blockguards inhibit cooling where you most need it and distort cyl. bores.
when the engine reaches operating temp. the block guard will expand causing deformation of the top of the sleeve.

Interesting....So the fact that the blockguard has more room for coolant to flow than the headgasket, still inhibits???

Distorts cylinders??? Everyone knows to get your bore/hone done AFTER the block guard is installed!!

Your sleeves are going to deform at operating temp anyways, might as well do it safely

?? more room? you are taking room away. from the top of the water jacket that is.

i was assuming honing after the block gueard is installed. but in order for the top of the cyl. not to distord would be to bore/hone with the top of the block at operating temperature since remember our sleeves are joint together in the middle and not free standing form eachother.
And the block guard would have to have equal clearance all around the cyl. wich, well is hard to do...

It may be taking away from the waterjacket, but still not impeding coolant flow, just capacity
