If you are gonna keep the turbo, the I strongly recommend buying aftermarket pistons and rods, also get a blockgaurd...and get headstuds, if you are gonna boost more than 18psi I would strongly recommend sleeving the block and having the blockgaurd welded in. You're best bet is to try to find the cylinder head off of a b16a...dont forget to modify the head and run the oil line to the head...consider getting an upgraded oil pump considering you'll need to feed oil to both the head and the turbo through steel braided lines....the headgasket you are supposed to use is the LS headgasket nd you need headstuds or headbolts from a GSR

LS/VTEC is a great way to go but to run it properly you must have $$ i currently have just got my LS/VTEC fully built over the winter.....there are a lot of things to take into consideration such as re enforcing the bottom end this has to be done or the life of your motor will not last...the ls/vtec gets knocked a lot because of poor r/s ratio but if built properly you should have no problems....if you do it right you should have no problems and a real beast in your hands....a few things i would suggest in getting would be a crank girdle this stabalizes the crank when reving high 8000rpm this part comes stock in the gsr's as well of course the ITR i got mine from Z10 engineering http://www.z10eng.com ...also high compression pistons and say some eagle rods also be prepared to upgrade your oil pump, water pump and timeing belt to gsr and get a larger fuel pump...of course if you want more power you upgrade your cams, header and exhaust...hope that answers some of your questions.

the block guard is bad because it will deteriorate the cooling capabilities of the stock block. water and coolant is supoposed to be there but instead you block it off whcih can create uneven hot spots.

yes, you can use the GS-R bottom girdle. I have information about it on http://www.hondaswap.com under the articles. i did a small but informative write up on LS VTEC.

If you really want a closed deck, then start with an OBD1 h22a engine. They are closed deck, dohc vtec.

No offense, but if your complaining about spending 300 dollars for something that could possibly save your motor....err, then I for sure would not recommend messing with LS/VTEC. I just recently acquired a LS block that I'm going to get built, and I plan on spending a lot of money to do it right, and do it once. IMO, if you spend the money up front, it'll save you from spending it later when things broke from penny pinching.
