battery relocation, alternator whine?
i relocated my battery to the trunk. install appears clean, but im getting alternator whine when engine is under load (AC on mostly). i regrounded my starter, and checked all other wires, which seem fine.
only thing i can think of is that im getting interference from the power cable running through the car, is this possible, or is whine only from a bad ground somewhere? if the power cable is too close to other cables, would that cause this? would a noise suppressor help??
thx everyone..

You are probably getting the whine because you have ground points that are so far apart from eachother,
With relocationg the battery did you extend all of your grounds so that they have one common grounding point (for the stereo). Multiple ground points is a major cause of whine that follows engine speed.
Check into that and pm me whats up.

And yes, for the rest of your post i didnt read the first time.
If you run power wire near your RCA's you will mostlikely pick up interference.
The best solution is run all power (high voltage) down one side and the audio signal down the other side (low voltage). If thats impossible try upgrading your audio path to something like Zapco's Symbilink (fully shielded and 16v RMS audio signal). That is what i run and have crossed right over my 0 gauge power and didnt get a bit of hum.

hey branden
thx for the reply..
i dont have common ground points, and i dont have a stereo system installed..only what came on the car. my power wire (2ga) is run down the passenger side of the car, with the battery ground against the rear hatch area. only ground replaced in front was the starter, which is now directly ground to frame..
only thing i can think of is the power is too close to wire looms (tied to it at some points), and there may be some small engine or sensor grounds in there...
id hate to spend money on an inline noise diffuser or something, but if i have to, then ok... think it will work?
thx again, branden, and all..

run the same guage ground DIRECTLY next to the power.. it will cancel out any noise the wire is giving off...
I had a very similar problem with my last stereo.. i ran the same size wire ground right along with the power and it went away.

ground, from the rear of the car to under the hood? battery grounds are only supposed to be ~12" long.. are you saying that i should just connect a wire to two frame points, one in front of car, and one in rear?
See mine wasn't a battery in the trunk it was a power distribution block... the guy ran 4g. power from the battery to the back and to cancel the noise he ran a ground from the bat. to the trunk... Not sure if he grounded the amps etc. to that ground or if he just grounded it back there too... I'd imagine he grounded the amps with it but I don't know for sure...
I'd try what the other guy suggested... it's probobly just a bad ground somewhere.
If all else fails I've been told running a ground next to the power line will cancel out any noise the power wire is bleeding off.
