Default Ballast resistor needed for external coil?

I just got my Blaster SS coil and i was reading it and it says that if you add this coil to a points distributor or a non-current limiting ignition without using an MSD ignition box that you need to run a .8 ohm ballast resistor. Now i was wondering is our hondas one of those types of ignitions? Do i need the ballast resistor then? And what does that ballast resistor do?
