b20b over heating!!!! HELP!!!!
JDM b20b stock internals running only 5lbs... Has slightly larger injectors and skunk2 manifold and that's about it..has some aem pcm... Not sure its my buddies car. Anyway... The other day the fan shorted out and he bought a mishimoto fan and wired it in... Fan works great.. Only issue is now it's overheating. It idles and stays around 190... Once he starts driving rises to 200+. The bottom radiator hose doesn't get warm until after its been driven... Eben at 190 it feels like the tstat doesn't open... Here's the kicker, brand new tstat, water pump, and head gasket. Swapped the tstat out and didn't solve issue. Buddy hasn't dogged car in months so could the head gasket really be blown? We tried everythingm.. Could the water pump be out already?
what temperature range did you get the tstat.
if it has an aem pcm, im assuming it is also running aem ems ? , what temperature is it set to turn on the fan.

The tstat is a 170 degree. And as for the ems. The fan switch is bypassed and wired directly into the ignition so it turns on with car power on. He has been running it that way for going on 18 months now and hasn't ever had any issues with water temp.. All of sudden after head gasket blown and everything replaced.... The fan shorts and boom too much heat.
Yea, not concerned with the fan... It only over heats while driving. We burped it for over an hour, just sitting in idle... A few decent blubs and a slew of tiny bubbles, but after about 30 mins it was all clear. Could the main pipe be clogged right at the tstat housing causing the coolant to only flow through the bypass back into the head ???
Fan is mounted correctly and spinning the correction direction with polarities correct. We tested with it front mounted pushing into radiator and stayed with back mounted to pull from the radiator INTO the Baum. No unruley gaps either... Only disparity is that fan hangs off center abput an inch to allow the turbo clearance. Could that small amount open radiatorcasue this by it be sitton too close to the turbo?
fan wired the right way? Is it set up as a push or pull? Second question how long has it been since the headgasket was done? Obvious question did you resurface the head? Second is did you check for deck warpage? 3rd did you reuse the headbolts again? You should never reuse stock headbolts, especially on a turbo setup as they stretch from the pressure.

My .02 remove the thermostat if not done already maybe it's stuck and you need a new one. There are ways to check if it works involves stove Water and thermometer and of. Course the thermostat. Also water pump might want to get that changed if it's old.
Not an expert on turbos but I know they create extra heat. Hopefully you are running an intercooler

Tstat has been tested twice, both of them.... And are new BTW. The Honda oem waterpump is also about 4 weeks old, along with the headgasket. Yes intercooler and yes it makes heat. The location of the turbo relative to the radiator is not new. The car ran fine for nearly a year. It blew headgasket, then had full flush and everything replaced. A week later the fan blew and now can't get rid of heat. We are contemplating pulling the head and checking the head gasket,.... But... There aren't any signs of it blown. The oil is clean and clear and so is the coolant. And no bogging nor smoke.
As for the head, it was reconditioned and set up.... I asked him about the block being checked and he wasn't sure... He is still waiting on his guys response.
