Default B20...Vtec or Tranny work?

Whats up guys...After doing a lot of research I still haven't figured out whats best for my B20 Integra. Right now, its a straight b20 with an LS intake manifold, LS tranny, and I/H/E.

I was contemplating on throwing on a b16 or a GSR head (Vtec from 4800 or 5000 to 7000) I don't wanna rev past the stock red line of a B20 which is 7200 I believe but the B20 stops making power around 6800. I was planning on keeping everything stock.

The next option I was looking at was just putting a B16 Tranny, Lightweight flywheel and a clutch and staying straight B20 - NON VTEC.

How reliable is each? What would be more practical considering this is my daily driver for school/work? Thanks for all your input HT

Reliability depends on the parts you use and the build of the motor. I think you would get more power with the VTEC head, that route is also going to cost more. I wouldn't regard one being more practical, it all depends on how much you are willing to spend.

If you put the B16 trans on, you'll be shifting gears constantly. The shorter ratios and the lower rev range make for a busy time in the drivers seat. I would get the VTEC head, as it will give you a great platform for whatever else you decide to do on the motor. And as was noted above, it's as reliable as you make it, so spend accordingly.

Thanks for the replies...

In response - I think I'll go with the vtec head but what if i kept it all stock? I don't plan on reving past the stock limit of the b20 bottom end which is 7200 - I plan on buying a GSR head thats in mint condition. I just always heard horror stories of LS and B20 Vtec combos and I'm just curious as to how it would be with all OEM stock parts.

Thanks again

Haha I was planning on putting in a B18 block and top it off with a TypeR head using the B20 as the base to build off of. If what I heard about the B20 block being a bored B18 I think it'll blow sooner or later. I'm interested in this too.

it can be as reliable as stock. do it right .
I would rev at least a little higher though; non vtec gear ratios+ low rev limit = a not happy vtec motor.
